John Zerzan was born in Salem, Oregon in 1943. He attended 12 years of Catholic schools, then Stanford, with graduate studies later. An anti-technology, anti-civilization writer, he holds that if the future isn’t somehow primitive, we won’t have a future. His books include Elements of Refusal (1988, 1999), Future Primitive (1994), Running on Emptiness (2002), and When We Are Human (2021). Zerzan’s next book, The Failure of Civilization, is forthcoming from Autonomedia.
