Juan Antonio Hernández

Juan Antonio Hernández, Caracas, Venezuela, PhD por la Universidad de Pittsburgh, especializado en teoría crítica y estudios sobre América Latina.
Académico, novelista y diplomático. Ha sido profesor en la Universidad de Kentucky (2003-2004), Cornell (2005-2007) y en la Universidad “Simón Bolívar” de Venezuela (2007-2009). Entre 2009 y 2018 fue embajador de Venezuela ante Qatar, Egipto y la Liga árabe.
Recibió la medalla del Mérito del Emir de Qatar, Doha, 2013. Obtuvo el Premio Internacional de Cine “Santiago Álvarez” por el guion de Gaitán, el hombre que fue Colombia, Cuba, marzo de 2011. Recibió la mención especial de honor, en la categoría de ensayo histórico social, Premio “Casa de las Américas”, Cuba, 2008. Obtuvo la beca de investigación doctoral de la Fundación Andrew Mellon, 2002-2003.

Academic, novelist and diplomat. He has been a professor at the University of Kentucky (2003 – 2004), Cornell (2005 – 2007) and at the “Simón Bolívar” University of Venezuela (2007 – 2009). Between 2009 and 2018 he was Venezuela’s ambassador to Qatar, Egypt and the Arab League.
He received the Medal of Merit from the Emir of Qatar, Doha, 2013. He received the “Santiago Álvarez” International Film Award for the screenplay for Gaitán, el hombre que fue Colombia, Cuba, March 2011.
He received the special honorable mention , in the category of social historical essay, “Casa de las Américas” Prize, Cuba, 2008. He obtained the doctoral research grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation, 2002 – 2003.
